Bollywood in recession
The world makes the best movies during the recession. Hope that is true for Bollywood too, going by the number of expensive Bollywood movies they are producing by the day. And now owing the strike between the producers and multiplex owners there is going to be a flood of bad Bollywood movies.
According to latest numbers read like a horror script: box-office takings plummeted by more than 90 per cent last month year-on-year, according to IBOS, a website that tracks Bollywood’s commercial health. The strike was over how ticket revenues are split. The producers wanted 50 per cent; the cinema owners said no, claiming that the high proportion of poorly performing Bollywood films pumped out in recent months meant they could not afford such a deal. A two-month boycott of India’s largest cinema chains by the country’s leading producers ensued. The resulting drought of new releases ended when the two sides formulated a new revenue-sharing formula last weekend.
So the crisis was caused by the really bad movies that were being churned out. People who have money, socialites who had nothing better to do, people who work as assistants and who may be even one movie old are staring to direct movies. Even after all the ‘inspiration’ from Hollywood they still can’t match the movies made world over.
The glut of movies is also blamed on the amount of money flowing in from abroad. According to some agencies estimate that $700 million flowed into Bollywood from abroad in 2008 – a fivefold increase on 2007. Even more was raised on stock markets in Mumbai and London. So this ensured that actors who were in demand got paid ridiculous amounts of money while the quality of movies they did was quite questionable.
I guess the slump should also make directors look for fresh faces in acting. i am tired of seeing the same faces again and again. Its time we should give the opportunity to new people, who are not star kids and have a passion for acting. It’s sad to see all the horrible cinema that happens in India. A great medium is just producing froth and nothing else. Hope this recession makes for more sensible cinema.

Beggar’s Savings
A man walks past a beggar every day and gives him Rs.10 and that Continues for a year. Then suddenly the daily donation changes to Rs. 7.50
“Well,” the beggar thinks, “it’s still better than nothing.”
A year passes in this way until the man’s daily donation suddenly becomes Rs. 5.
“What’s going on now?” the beggar asks his donor.
“First you give me Rs. 10 every day, then Rs. 7,50 and now only Rs. 5. What’s the problem?”
“Well,” the man says, “last year my eldest son went to university. It’s very expensive, so I had to cut costs. This year my eldest daughter also went to university, so I had to cut my expenses even further.”
“And how many children do you have?” the beggar asks.
“Four,” the man replies.
“Well,” says the beggar, “I hope you don’t plan to educate them all at my expense.”

My Desire……..
Koi tumse puche kaun hu main?
Keh dena koi khaas nahi
Ek dost hai kacha-pakka sa
Ek jhooth hai adha-sacha sa
Jazbat ko dhake ek parda sa
Bahana ek acha sa
Jeevan ka ek sathi hai
Jo sath hai lekin pass nahi
Koi tumse puche kaun hu main
Keh dena koi khas nahi……
