God please save us from Rahul Mahajan’s swayamvar!
As if it was not enough to watch Rakhi Sawant, play the coy and blushing to-be-bride for Swayamvar Season 1, now audiences will have to put up with Rahul Mahajan as the not so dashing groom to 15 aspiring girls for the Second season of Swayamvar. Hope Rahul will marry the chosen one unlikely Rakhi end up doing engagement.
Rahul’s past shenanigans may help this show strike gold. However the very fact that a person with a past as notorious as Rahul Mahajan is being elevated to the status of a celebrity raises certain question marks about our social norms.
Rahul Mahajan first burst into public view and public space as the grieving son of BJP politician, the late Pramod Mahajan. Exactly a month after his father’s death, he had to be hospitalised after an alleged cocaine overdose. This was followed by a rushed marriage and divorce to Shweta Singh cited physical abuse and mental torture as reasons.
His first appearance on television was for the controversial reality T.V. show Big Boss-2 where he came across as an incorrigible flirt, manipulative and extremely shrewd. He flirted happily shamelessly with Payel Rohatgi and Monica Bedi. He also served as the judge on Colors’s Chhote Miyan, a children’s stand-up comedy reality show. His third stint for television will be Swayamvar Season -2.
This show is being planned around him because he is purported to be a ‘celebrity’. Without that tag of celebrity hood, he is just another ordinary person with a famous surname. Rahul Mahajan is one such so called media made celebrity whose only claim to fame has been being in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Shameless Rahul confessed that there is no harm in getting married on television as he is being paid for marriage.
Well all we hope for this time is that the viewers do not feel cheated as they did when Rakhi only got engaged and now they do get to witness the big fat wedding of a scammer. Oh God bachaooo!!!!!!!

Review: Fall in ishq with “Ishqiya”
‘Ishqiya’, which combines the genres of romance and suspense, is the directorial venture of Abhishek Chaubey. This debutant director is all set to make his B-town entry with this stupendous movie. The movie Ishqiya has ample of materials to fall in ishq with it. This desi piquant black comedy is surely going to be a landmark movie in Indian cinema. It has excelled in all the field from directing to acting to storytelling. Wow the movie just rocking! It’s lingo, it’s idiom, it’s humor have made the movie a sheer eye-candy!
‘Ishqiya’ is set in the backdrop of eastern Uttar Pardesh, narrating a romantic plot where individuals get entangled in a web of crime, suspense, passion and betrayal. And what a threesome! Ishqiya has ensemble veteran Naseeruddin Shah, talented Arshad Warsi and beautiful Vidya Balan together for a cinematic delight.
Khalujan (Naseeruddin Shah) and Babban (Arshad Warsi) are two thieves on the run. They have locked horns with Mushtaq (Salman Shahid), their boss, who is now thirsty for their blood. Running for life, they plan to seek refuge at a friend’s place and escape further but instead they end up meeting his widow Krishna (Vidya Balan). Krishna plays the perfect femme fatale and lures both Khalujan and Babban, who fall for her, without realizing her dubious intentions. She is portrayed as a woman madly in love, as an object of desire and as a vision of purity.
Love blurs Khalujan’s vision of old-fashioned love and Babban’s lascivious heart and they fail to see through the smokescreen that both have been tricked by enticing Krishna. But destiny has other plans for all of them! .
Only the last few reels are so much of a rumble-tumble, they leave you both confused and somewhat dissatisfied. But that shouldn’t be counted as ‘Ishqiya’ is a pure delight to watch. Every actor in ‘Ishqiya’ has delivered a matchless sparkling performance! On the whole, ‘Ishqiya’ is definitely worth a watch. The film has a captivating plot, outstanding performances, enchanting music, a gripping story and skillful nifty direction to make the viewer fall for it. It should appeal to the hardcore movie buffs as well as the multiplex junta. Don’t miss this masterpiece in any cost! It is going to be a hypnotic experience for sure.
Desitara Rating – 4/5 (Watch in theaters)

Indian entry ‘Harishchandrachi Factory’ fails to make it in the final Oscar list
Another disappointment for India in Oscars! ‘Harishchandrachi Factory’, India’s official entry for the upcoming Oscars, couldn’t climb the stairs of success in the Academy Awards as it has failed to make it to the final nomination list for the Best Foreign Language Film. But getting selected among 20 other languages as an Indian film is itself a big achievement. After Shwaas, another Marathi movie, was India’s official entry in the Best Foreign Language Film at the 2010 Oscars.
“Harishchandrachi Factory” is Mumbai-based theatre artist Paresh Mokashi’s directorial debut. The film is a biopic of Dadasaheb Phalke’s ordeals to wield the megaphone for India’s first motion picture “Raja Harishchandra” in 1913. Phalke made India’s first feature film in 1913, “Raja Harishchandra”, sowing the seeds for what is today the world’s largest film industry. Phalke, known as the father of Indian cinema lives in the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, instituted in his honour by the government in 1969 and which is, until today, the highest award in Indian cinema.
Nine films have been selected for the next round of voting for the 82nd Academy Awards; 65 had originally qualified in the category. The final list will be announced Feb 2, while the award ceremony will take place March 7.
The films competing for the next round are:
Argentina, “El Secreto de Sus Ojos,” Juan Jose Campanella, director;
Australia, “Samson & Delilah,” Warwick Thornton, director;
Bulgaria, “The World Is Big and Salvation Lurks around the Corner,” Stephan Komandarev, director;
France, “Un Prophète,” Jacques Audiard, director;
Germany, “The White Ribbon,” Michael Haneke, director;
Israel, “Ajami,” Scandar Copti and Yaron Shani, directors;
Kazakhstan, “Kelin,” Ermek Tursunov, director;
The Netherlands, “Winter in Wartime,” Martin Koolhoven, director;
Peru, “The Milk of Sorrow,” Claudia Llosa, director.
Agian, better luck next time! I’m sure one day we will surely going to win Oscar in this category.
